The carbon brush of the electric tool of the motor and the carbon brush of the generator are also collectively called the carbon brush of the motor or the carbon brush of the motor power tool. Commutator is composed of brush and commutation ring, carbon brush is a kind of brush. Because of the rolling of the rotor, the brush always conflicts with the commutation ring, and the spark erosion will occur at the moment of commutation, so the brush is a vulnerable part in the DC motor.

The role of motor carbon brushes in the motor:

1. Add the external current (excitation current) to the tumbling rotor through the carbon brush (input current)

2. Introduce the electrostatic charge on the large shaft into the earth through the carbon brush (carbon brush of grounded electric tool (output current))

3. Change the current direction (in the commutator motor, the brush also plays a commutation role)

4. Led the large shaft (ground) to the maintenance equipment for rotor grounding maintenance and measurement of rotor positive and negative ground voltage
